Dialectics of Hope
I Moscow Biennale of Modern Art
Main project The Enfilade of the Main Building
January 27 — February 28, 2005
Starts at 17:30

Yang Fudong (China). “Seven Intellectuals in Bamboo Forest, Part 2”
The Biennale’s main project is put together by
an experienced team of six international curators: Joseph
Backstein, Daniel Birnbaum, Nicolas Bourriaud, Iara Boubnova,
Rosa Martinez and Hans Ulrich Obrist. Together, they have
invited 41 young artists to present their work in Moscow — those
who, for them, define the face of art at the beginning of
21st-century.
Artists from China, India, USA, Cuba, Korea,
France, Germany and others (including six from Russia) are among
those taking part. New artists no longer simply provoke the
public. Social responsibility, “new seriousness” and the
“aesthetics of interaction” are the spirits of the time.
“Dialectics of Hope” is exhibited in the former
Lenin Museum, the State Schusev Museum of Architecture, on the
facade of The State Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky val and at the
metro station Vorobievy Gory.
